Breville BES880 Specifications, and the Two Books That State Them
Breville publishes two BES880 instruction books, issue U22 and issue H19. They agree on the components and disagree on how hard to tamp.
The Breville BES880 Barista Touch is specified in two separate instruction books, issue U22 and issue H19, and the two agree on every component figure while printing different tamping guidance.
The two documents
Both books were downloaded on 13 August 2026 and both returned HTTP 200 with no login.

Neither URL names the issue. Both documents do, on the back page beside the model number. Quoting a BES880 figure without the issue code names a document that is one of two.
What the Rating Information block states

That is the complete electrical specification the document publishes. No current draw, no standby figure and no frequency range beyond the single value.

The two books state the hopper capacity in different units and the numbers do not convert to each other. 8.8oz is 250 g as printed in U22. ½lb is 227 g. Both are quoted as printed rather than reconciled, because reconciling them would mean choosing one document over the other without grounds.
The 54mm portafilter is consistent with every other Breville espresso book checked, and no Breville document states that a BES880 basket fits any other model.
The one place the two books disagree
Issue U22 and issue H19 print different tamping pressures for the same machine.

The same split appears across the wider set. Of eight Breville espresso instruction books checked on 13 August 2026, four state a tamping figure. The counting rule: a book counts as stating one when the phrase tamp down firmly is followed by a pound range in the same sentence.

The two books printing the lower figure carry 2022 issue codes. The two printing the higher figure carry 2019 and 2015 codes.
Region and issue year vary together across these four, so which of the two explains the difference is not established by these documents. Both books say in the same sentence that the amount of pressure matters less than applying it consistently.
What neither BES880 book states
Checked across both documents on 13 August 2026.
- No dimensions and no weight. Neither book carries a size or a mass anywhere.
- No brew temperature at the group and no PID setpoint.
- No pump pressure figure, in bar or otherwise.
- No part numbers and no parts diagram.
- No statement that any component fits another Breville model.
- No grind setting count. The books describe the grind selector as running
from fine to coarseand give no number of positions.
Where a BES880 question needs one of those, no Breville document answers it.
