We recorded Nuova Simonelli as publishing brochures behind a form. Its United States arm publishes an open archive with manuals, spec sheets and a part number catalogue. Here is what changed and how.
We had this brand recorded as brochures only, behind a form, and that was wrong.
When we assessed 28 espresso brands by reading each maker’s own website, Nuova Simonelli came out near the bottom. Its Italian site offers a brochure per machine and asks for your name, company and email before it hands one over. Eleven titles, all marketing.
Re-testing by a different method moved it. Nuova Simonelli’s United States arm publishes an open documentation archive: user manuals, specification sheets, and a browsable catalogue of individual part numbers. No form and no login.
What is actually published
The archive sits at simonelliusa.com, under an equipment documents section, with the files themselves under a PDFs directory organised by model.
Manuals. We verified one serving: the E1 Prima Pro user manual, 5,997,105 bytes, an operating instruction book rather than a brochure. A second, the Mythos GX instruction booklet, serves at 4,386,739 bytes in five languages.
Specification sheets, per model and per configuration, including discontinued lines. The Appia 3 Group sheet sits alongside current machines.
Part numbers, as individual catalogue entries. 06200028 Boiler Flange D205. 04000412 Aurelia II Light Wiring. 07300786 Pump Register Knob. 03001932 Group Cover for Lowered 2 Group. These are the maker’s own numbers against the maker’s own descriptions.
What we have not done is enumerate the archive. Its index page requires JavaScript and its sitemap returns an application shell rather than a list, so we reached the documents by searching the domain rather than by reading a catalogue. We can tell you these documents exist and serve. We cannot tell you how many there are, and we would rather say that than publish a number we did not count.
How the correction happened
We did not find this by looking harder at Nuova Simonelli. We found it by reading a competitor’s search results, noticing a documents archive on a domain we had not tested, and then querying that domain directly.
That is the method, and it applies to the whole corpus. A maker’s site menu is built for buyers. It leads to products, dealers and a contact form. The documents a technician needs sit on the same servers under names no buyer would search for, and the menu has no reason to point at them.
Sixteen brands were re-tested this way. Nine moved, all of them toward a larger document set, and not one turned out to publish less than we had recorded. Nuova Simonelli is one of the nine.
What this does not include
No exploded diagram and no service manual were located. The part numbers exist as catalogue entries, and a catalogue entry names a part. It does not show you where the part sits in the machine.
No document we examined states which machines a given part fits. The catalogue lists a number against a description, and that is a different statement from a fitment. Across Gaggia, Rocket, Breville, Philips, De’Longhi and the 28 brands in this survey, no manufacturer document we read asserts that a numbered part belongs to more than one named model.
